Allen, MD - How does a perfectly healthy, perfectly adorable, perfectly friendly dog wait for an entire year for a home?
It's a good question.
Perhaps because there are so many dogs in need of a good home.
Perhaps it is because of breed prejudice.
Perhaps it is due to a lack of exposure.
Perhaps it is a combination of all of these factors.
Penny, a 2 yr-old Am Staff mix, has been in boarding for an entire year. A year without a family to love - a year of waiting for a true sense of belonging.
Prior to her many days in boarding, Penny was staying at an animal shelter in Athens, GA. The staff at that facility thought the world of this pint-sized pup as well.
Shared at that time from the staff,
"Penny is my favorite dog at the shelter right now. She basks in all the love and attention she can get. She is a perfect dog! Penny gets along very well with other dogs. She is a quick study and was able to master "sit" within minutes of me showing her what I wanted. Penny is not an overly needy dog. She loves people but doesn't mind laying in the sunshine and enjoying the moment. She has a short little stubby body with a cute little tale that never stops wagging!"
Just recently, a Facebook page was created for this perfect pup. The title of her page is simple, truthful, and to the point, "Penny needs a home".
We may not be able to change the number of dogs available for adoption, nor the many people who suffer from a nasty case of breed prejudice, but we can lend a hand to this dog's exposure - making her "Queen for a day" and helping her to hit the magical world of rescue networking.
A few quick facts about Penny.
