The Annual Interlaken 5K and One Mile Races were held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the borough of Interlaken, N.J.
The weather was near ideal for running with temperatures in the 50’s and almost no wind under somewhat cloudy skies.
The start of both the 5k and one mile was on the tree lined street in front of Interlaken Park and the fall foliage on the course made for a delightful run for all.
The One Mile race started at 10:30 a.m. and the runners were led by a police motorcycle through the course.
Coming in first and diving through the finish line was Stephen Myer of Allenhurst in a time of 6:15. For the girls first to break the tape was Anne Papageorge also of Allenhurst in 6:46.
The 5K race started at 11 a.m. and followed a route through the borough. Coming in first was Ken Kropac of Lake Como in a time of 17:12. He was followed by Ryan Duffy of Clark in 18:23.
For the women the first to break the tape was Julia Pugliese of Audobon in 21:09. She was followed by Ashley Forsyth of Spring lake Heights in 21:48.
The first Interlaken resident finishers were John cucei in 20:45 and Gahi Binns in 23:06.
Age group winners included: Brandon Peck of Asbury Park in 24:35; Caitie Ellenby of Bel Air, Maryland in 22:54; Chris Collins of Little Silver in 21:02; Jacquiline Buckler of Lake Como in 26:22; Jose Sanchez of Freehold in 1938; Heather Wanner of Allenhurst in 23:05; Joe Brumman of Interlaken in 22:47; Cheryl Scher of South River in 23:32; James Butler of Brooklyn, N.Y. in 21:10; Colleen DeSimone of West Long Branch in 26:06; Dennis Tardio of Howell in 23:33; Veronica Duffy of Brick in 37:32; Ollie Nelson of Farmingdale in 27:48; Marilyn Ryder of Eatontown in 29:12; Joe Benedict of Mikllstone in 48:35.
After the 5K there were kid’s races for various ages on the lawn in the park.
Awards were then presented in the park to the overall and age group winners.
Runners stck around after the race and enjoyed a post-race celebration that included, soda, beer, subs and a variety of other snacks.
