You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. (Isaiah 26:3 AMP)
We need a guard over our heart these days. People hurt each other and we may be victim or we may be the one who causes harm. God is a guard over us protecting us or healing us or holding us back.
Our mind has a direction or tendency. Maybe it's anger. Maybe its fear. It might be selflessness. We need to constantly take the direction of our mind, it's tendency, to the Lord and keep it near Him.
The character of our mind is how we treat people. Are we honest with our boss? Are we kind to the elderly one who is a little slow? Do we keep our mind on pure, peaceful, loving things? It's easy to get caught up in our necessities and the cacophony in our world. But if we keep our character near to Him we'll have perfect, constant peace.
Two more things with our tendency and character are we have to lean on Him and hope confidently in Him. Leaning on Him is while we walk spiritually in our hearts and souls depending tightly and strongly. Then hoping confidently in Him is trusting and believing that He gives what we need when we call to Him.
We need peace in a day where every other TV show is violent. We need peace in a day when the news is absolutely evil. We need peace in a day when the world is rude and we get caught up in it. The way to find it is give all of our mind, the beginning place of our actions, to God. Keep our mind on Him, lean into Him, hope confidently in Him.
