It was an excellent day for Calgary based teams at the Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament in Calgary on Wednesday.
The Calgary Northstars, Calgary Buffaloes, Calgary Midget Flames, Calgary Royals and Calgary Chaos all came out victorious on Day Four of the week long tournament that began Boxing Day and ends New Year's Day.
The Royals won another nail biter. After trailing 1-0 to the Tisdale Trojans, Trent Geiger tied the game 18 seconds later and then Phil Bamber scored the game winning goal ten seconds after the Royals tied it. The Royals now improve to 3-0.
The Northstars and Midget Flames also improved to a perfect 3-0 record on Wednesday. Brandon Long scored two goals and an assist as the Midget Flames defeated the Moose Jaw Generals 5-3. Also yesterday afternoon the Northstars defeated the Beardy's Blackhawks out of Duck Lake, Saskatchewan 3-2 on a game winning goal by Mitch Moroz with 57 seconds left in the second period.
The Buffaloes, meanwhile improved to a 2-1 record after defeating the Carolina Junior Hurricanes 3-1. Ty Morgan scored the game winning goal for the Buffaloes with 7:35 left in the second period. Matt Plesa, who has had an excellent tournament, got the game winning assist.
On the girls' side, Jordyn Constance and Rachel Marshall each scored a goal and an assist, and Ashley Crosser made 15 saves as the Calgary Chaos defeated the Vancouver Fusion 2-0 to improve to 1-2.
My Calgary-based MVP's on Wednesday were Brandon Long on the boys' side and Ashley Crosser on the girls' side.
