Peppy, on the left, with my pal Paul-photo by Mary McGrath
My pal Paul and I decided to have lunch at one of his favorite restaurants in Culver City. I’m a sucker for diners, so I said “game on” when he suggested Peppy’s, inside the Mar Vista Bowling Alley on Venice Blvd. at Grandview.
I’d been to this place a few years ago when they used to have karaoke in their bar, so I was glad to see that the down-home charm of this coffee shop hasn’t changed. It attracts a local following from those who are known on a first name basis. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and on top of this, they provide simply good food at affordable prices.
For $7.95, my shrimp salad had mounds of seafood. It’s not fancy, but at these prices, it was a steal, and more than enough to satiate this hungry athlete.
Paul had French toast with bacon, egg white scrambled eggs and their dense chunky salsa. We were both members of the clean plate club a few minutes later. Touchdown for Peppy’s.
In this economy, it’s nice to know there are still some homey places around town that aren’t about to rip you off at every turn. Paul also raves about their salmon, tilapia and other fish dishes which he enjoys at Peppy’s for dinner.
I’m already planning my next visit.
