Peoria Public Library hosting robotics event (Photos)

April 6-14 will be National Robotics Week, and the Peoria Public Library is hosting a special event in honor of the week. Robomania will be held at the North Branch of the library from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. The public is invited to this technology festival, which will include informational booths, interactive displays and demonstrations of robots, such as Lego Mindstorm robots.

Robomania will feature FIRST Teams from the Peoria area. FIRST, which stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology," is an organization with the goal of getting students interested in and involved with science and technology. Information on getting involved with FIRST is available on the organization's website.

National Robotics Week has been observed since 2010. It is held annually during the second full week of April. 2012's celebration included events in all 50 states. The purpose of the week is educate the public about the importance of robotics in today's society and to peak students' interest in robotics-related fields.
