Peoria and Glendale are having a very hot September theater month

Hot time, summer in the city! What better way to cool off than with some of the great theater currently playing and about to open in Glendale and Peoria?

Peoria's Theater Works opened its 2010-11 season, its 25th, with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's classic musical Into The Woods, based of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. The Examiner reviewed this wonderful production stating, "Theater Works' Into The Woods makes for a magical musical evening of fabulously grim Grimm fairy tales." This is one of Broadway's best and you have until September 12 to enjoy its hypnotic spell.

Next up at Theater Works is The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. This raucous comedy by Charles Busch opens October 1 and will play to October 17.

Arizona Broadway Theatre is closing the 2009-10 season with two superb productions of the musical I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change by Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts and the comedy Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig. Both shows are playing in classic repertory style, alternating performances.

The Examiner summarized its review of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change writing that the show "...may be from another century. It may have aged a bit but this champagne has aged rather well and, thanks to Arizona Broadway Theatre, [director Kurtis] Overby and his cast of four quirky, comic masters, it is still bubbly and ticklishly good fun."

The Examiner was no less pleased with ABT's first non-musical Lend Me a Tenor, stating, "If you are looking for a fun evening of great comedy, then Lend Me a Tenor is just the ticket."

Opening the 2010-11 season at ABT is My Way, a Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, conceived by David Grapes and Todd Olson. My Way, with direction, choreography and musical direction by Kurtis W. Overby, will open October 1 and run through October 24.
