People’s Choice Awards 2013: Sandra Bullock receives first favorite humanitarian

For the first time the fans or “the people” got to sit onstage, ensconced in the background. It’s interesting to note all of the PCA winners just happened to be present in the audience. The camera made no bones showing them throughout the two-hour live telecast Wednesday night at the Nokia Theatre. Tampa Bay viewers subscribing to Bright House Networks watched the 39th People’s Choice Awards on the CBS affiliate WTSP, channel 10.

Not all categories for movies, television, and music were presented during the broadcast. Many were announced either onscreen or voiceover in rapid time. “Hunger Games” was the big winner for its star Jennifer Lawrence and Favorite Movie.

Multiple winners in TV were for Favorite Comedic Actors from “Glee” Lea Michele and Chris Colfer. “Castle” and its handsome star Nathan Fillion, plus “Grey’s Anatomy” and Ellen Pompeo won for Favorite Crime Drama and Favorite Network Drama. Closing out the show was “The Big Bang Theory’s” win for Favorite Network Comedy.

In music The Wanted were deeply honored to win Favorite Breakout Artist beating out their boy band rival One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen.

For the first time the People’s Choice Awards presented the Favorite Humanitarian to Sandra Bullock’s tireless efforts for her work in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She received a rousing standing ovation after her introduction by Regina King. A short film was shown with Bullock at the Warren Easton Charter High School. Her acceptance speech was both touching and humorous.
