In partnership with the Escambia County School District and in recognition of National Youth Art Month, the PMA presents the 59th annual Youth Art Focus exhibition, now through February 9. It highlights the best work from more than 500 art students and educators, celebrating their strong artistic achievements and our area teachers' dedication to art education.
The event also includes receptions that will allow local educators to mingle and swap ideas. The first reception for teachers is tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 5-7 p.m. The Middle and High School reception will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, 5-7 p.m. and the Elementary School receptions is Friday, Jan. 18, 5-7 p.m.
The downstairs gallery will display The Stewart Collection of African Art, now through March 2, 2013. It includes sculpture and textiles from West and Central Africa, from antiquity to the early twentieth century. On view for the first time in a museum in this region, the Stewart Collection features wood, bronze and clay sculpture, masks, lost-wax castings and textiles.
