Showtime's latest series, "Penny Dreadful," released two new promo posters Thursday through Huffington Post. The posters reflect the sinister tone of the show, which attempts to weave together the legendary horrors of "Frankenstein," "Dracula," and "The Picture of Dorian Gray," which were all written by their respective authors during the same time period -- Victorian London.
The posters feature the characters of Dorian Gray and Brona Croft, and shows both of them bleeding, Gray's wound from a snake. If you're trying to remember a snake figuring prominently in the novel, it didn't. This seems to be a whole new breed ad hybrid of dark, Victorian fiction.
Both posters have a small tagline that reads, "There is some thing within us all."
"Penny Dreadful" is set to premiere on Showtime May 11, and stars Eva Green, Timothy Dalton and Josh Hartnett. The trailers so far have been very dark and disturbing, and some are already dubbing this the British version of "American Horror Story." But after the campy "Coven" of this season, this looks to be a much fiercer and horrific beast.
And I mean that in the very best way.
