Pennsylvania Restaurant Association endorses Jack Wagner in Democratic primary for Governor

February 16, Auditor General Jack Wagner announced that the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association endorsed him in the Democratic primary for Governor.

Wagner said he was honored to have earned the restaurant industry's endorsement. He said I will continue to fight for reforming the operations of state government and to promote competition, transparency, performance and accountability. He added, I will continue to fight for Pennsylvania families, taxpayers and businesses.

After hours of face-to-face interviews and subsequent discussion and evaluation, the Association's Board of Directors voted to endorse Auditor General Jack Wagner in the Democratic primary for Governor. The 2010 campaign for Governor is critically important, and the restaurant industry is playing a key role in the campaign with the Association's endorsement of Jack Wagner in the Democratic primary said Patrick Conway, PRA's President & CEO. There are restaurants in every community across the state, and we want to encourage them to step up and get directly involved in supporting the PRA-endorsed campaigns Conway added.

The Association's board focused on the candidates' positions on public policy issues, their interest in and knowledge of the restaurant industry's legislative priorities, and an assessment of their ability to win the Republican and Democratic primaries for Governor. The PRA was very impressed with Jack Wagner, said Garth Weldon of the Prime Rib in Philadelphia, PRA Chairman. Jack has a well established record in public service and what it takes to navigate our state through the difficult waters ahead Weldon added.

Prior to beginning his public service career, Wagner ran a small family restaurant business.

The Pennsylvania Restaurant Association represents over 7,000 Pennsylvania restaurants and food service establishments that employ more than 470,000 people and generating $16.2 billion in annual sales.

Wagner has twice been elected Pennsylvania Auditor General and received record-breaking vote totals in 2008. More information about Jack Wagner for Governor can be found at www.jackwagner.org.
