Pennsylvania increased export totals in 2013

26 states saw an increase in the amount of products that they export in 2013 across the country, according the US Department of Commerce. Pennsylvania export shipments in 2013 totaled $40.9 billion, an increase over the $38.8 billion total for 2012.

Pennsylvania's largest category for export merchandise is chemicals, at $7.3 billion this accounts for almost 18% of the total money from exports. This is followed by machinery ($4.8B), computer and electronic equipment ($3.9B) and transportation equipment ($3.7B).

Overall, the largest market for US products was Canada, purchasing $11.6 billion. While Mexico was second with $3.4 billion, followed by China who received 2.9 billion in merchandise.

The US total $2.3 trillion in exports, making it a record year and up from the $2.1 trillion in 2012. 16 states experienced a record year for exports in 2013, although PA was not among those states, it was still one of its better years.
