Two Pennsylvania college students were arrested and charged with theft for refusing to pay a tip on bad service at the Lehigh Pub. The couple was part of a larger group, and the service took an exceptionally long time, they had to get their own drink, napkins and silverware. When the bill came, the Lehigh Pub added on a 22% tip (the menu stated that groups of 6 or more have mandatory 18% gratuity).
Leslie Pope and John Wagner have gained national attention (and an internet buzz) over the past few days because people are curious about their story. They state that they refused to pay the tip because the service was terrible and is a gratuity. The couple must appear in court next month, and although authorities believe the case will be dropped, the couple said that if they are confronted with this situation in the future, they may just pay the tip. See video below for the story.
