The first trade that the Penguins made was with the New York Rangers. The Penguins sent forward Benn Ferriero to the Rangers, and in return the Penguins received forward Chad Kolarik. This season with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL, Kolarik has thirty-five points (16 goals, 19 assists) in forty-one games. Ferriero has played in thirty-four games with Wilkes-Barre, and has scored four goals and registered fourteen assists.
The second trade of the day involved the Penguins and the Dallas Stars. Pittsburgh sent the Stars defenseman Carl Sneep for a conditional seventh round pick. Sneep has spent the majority of the season in Wheeling with the Nailers of the ECHL. He appeared in one game with Wilkes-Barre, but failed to register a point. In twenty-nine games with the Nailers, Sneep scored fifteen points (3 goals, 12 assists) and was a +12.
