Preschool Story Time

"I Love Penguins"

Time: 10:00 a.m.

Location: Mesa County Library, 530 Grand Avenue Grand Junction, CO 81502

Cost: Free

This weeks story time features penguins. There are eighteen different species of this torpedo shaped, flightless bird and they are one of the most recognizable creatures in the world. This week children will be introduced to these very social and interesting creatures during this fun event.

Did you know:

*Penguins cannot fly but they are excellent swimmers. They spend 75% of the their time underwater!

*Penguins drink salt water. They have their own built in water filtration system that removes the salt from the water they drink.

*Penguin predators include the leopard seals, killer whales and sea lions.

* Penguins like to dive off cliffs and ice flows. They enjoy it so much that there can lines of penguins that are waiting for their turn to take a dive.

As always this program will be filled with music and movement designed to bring smiles to small faces!

"The True Story of the Three Little Pigs & Strega Nona"

Join the Mesa County Library for Tuesday night's Reader's Theater. This week, join children from Pomona Elementary School as they perform the story and poems based on the book by author Jon Scieszka.
Join the Mesa County Library every Tuesday night for Family Story Time. This event brings special guests and programs for fun, family entertainment that your kids will love.

Get the scoop on what "really happened" to The Three Little Pigs as told by Alexander T. Wolf. Is he really the "big bad wolf" as portrayed by legend or has he been framed and judged unfairly. Who's telling the truth, the Three Little Pigs or Mr. Wolf? Decide for yourself as Mr. Wolf presents his side of this beloved childrens tale.

Mrs. Golden's class will also be performing the story of Strega Nona by Tomie DePaola. This is the story of an old woman called Strega Nona (Grandma Witch) who was helpful to everyone in town. She hires a man named Big Anthony to help her with the chores although she makes him promise not to touch her pasta pot which is magic. Big Anthony promises but the lure of using the pot is too much and he decides to try it! What happens to Big Anthony and the magic pasta pot? Well you will just have to come on Tuesday and find out!

Kids Club (ages 7-11)

"Library Bingo"

Date: Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in the Central Library Children's Center

Time: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Mesa County Library, 530 Grand Avenue Grand Junction, CO 81502

This week Mesa County Library Kids club is hosting Library Bingo. It's a chance to play a favorite game and a chance to win a free book.

Kids Clubs is a weekly drop in style event, so you don't need to worry about being on time!

About Kids Club:

Kids Club is for folks 7-11 years old and is a drop in style event which means you don't have to worry about being late! Some of the things your "tween" can enjoy at this weekly event are stories, games, projects and even movies.
