According to TSN, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen of Virginia, Minnesota scored the game winning goal for Pittsburgh at 6:42 of the second period.

The Flames ended an embarrassing scoreless drought at home at 11:29 of the third period when Mikael Backlund found the back of the net past Marc-Andre Fleury. When Backlund scored it was the first home goal for the Flames in over nine periods of action. Prior to Saturday, the Flames had been shut out in five of their last seven games.

The Flames will now go on an interesting road trip where they play in Carolina on Monday and in Nashville on Tuesday before returning home to play Winnipeg on Thursday.

They are currently at 15-24-6 and are 19 points back of the Minnesota Wild for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
