Pence to host HP All-Star Baseball Camp on Dec. 17 & 18 at Baseball USA

HOUSTON -- Two-time All-Star right fielder Hunter Pence will host the HP All-Star Baseball Camp on Saturday, Dec. 17, as well as Sunday, Dec. 18, from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. at Baseball USA.

Kids (age 6-14) may register for the third annual camp.

Campers will need to bring proper baseball attire, such as a bat, glove, helmet, batting gloves, spikes (outdoor activities) and sneakers.

Giveaways include: Official Reebok Hunter Pence All-Star Camp t-shirt, Official Reebok Hunter Pence All-Star Camp backpack, HPASC 2011 official camp program, EFX balance bracelet, 8x10 autographed picture of Hunter Pence and a personalized picture with Pence (courtesy of Juan DeLeon Studio).

Pence game-used autographed bats, batting gloves, spikes and hats, as well as a 1 of 1 painting of Pence, are raffle items.

The 28-year-old Pence will be on hand to provide one-on-one instruction alongside a collaborative group of talented instructors.

An introduction of instructors and sponsors is scheduled to take place prior to the campers getting divided into groups by age.

Participants will run through approximately 10 stations over the course of the day that focus on the fundamental aspects of the game.

Lunch is provided after the morning session.

During the afternoon, Pence and the group of instructors will participate in a home run derby on the large outside field of Baseball USA.

An autograph session wraps up the event, thus allowing each camper an opportunity to get an autograph and photo with Pence.

"We are very excited to do this again," said Howie Pence, the older brother of Hunter and current pitching instructor at the Hunter Pence Baseball Academy. "It's our third time around. Getting ready for the camp has been a two-month process. We've got better giveaways and great sponsors. It's going to be fun.

"We specialize in training young baseball players."

The HP All-Star Baseball Camp allows participants a chance to absorb the extensive knowledge being passed along by the instructors.

Many have experience at the big league and minor league levels.

Howie Pence, Sean Danielson, Ryan Patterson, Brett Eibner, Chris George, Taylor Grote, Daryl Jones, Michael Rockett, David Macias, Brandon Seltzer, Phillip Allen, Malcolm Purvis and Odis Little return this year as part of Pence's group of instructors.

Also, Baylor University product and current Cincinnati Reds prospect Michael Griffin joins the group of instructors for the first time.

Chris Gay, a former minor league pitcher and owner of Cover All Bases in Arlington, Texas, is back for the second straight year.

Gay holds a special meaning to Pence, who views the former left-hander in the White Sox' system as a mentor and father figure.

He played a crucial role in helping the Pence brothers and Danielson to establish a business plan for the Hunter Pence Baseball Academy, which opened last January in the Cypress area.

"We have a group of instructors who truly respect Hunter and have been really good friends with him for quite a long time," Patterson said. "We're excited to work with the kids. A lot of the instructors have overcome odds. We can teach the game and how to overcome adversity. Our group really likes to help Hunter with his overall mission in being a difference maker in the community."

Pence makes it a point to be involved in the community.

The standout right fielder has built a stellar reputation as a local and national fan favorite for the way he carries himself on and off the field.

Pence plays the game of baseball with tremendous passion, hunger and desire, which serve as the driving force for his success.

He's an ideal person for youngsters to learn from.
