Pence: Limbaugh, Beck 'speak for more Americans' than 'mainstream media'

Conservative media outlets were attacked from both sides this week.

President Obama told one reporter he considered Fox News “more like talk radio” than a legitimate news outlet, while even “top Republicans” were supposedly “worried” about “the flamboyant rhetoric and angry tone of conservative activists and media personalities.”

That led Congressman Mike Pence (R.-Ind.) to defend conservative talk radio on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday:

You know, the American people cherish their freedom of speech and a free and independent press. That's why I found this morning's headlines so troubling,” Pence said Thursday. “Goaded on by a White House increasingly intolerant of criticism, lately the national media has taken aim at conservative commentators in radio and television. Suggesting that they only speak for a small group of activists and even suggesting in one report today that Republicans in Washington are ‘worried about their electoral effect.’

Well, that's hogwash.

To suggest that men and women that are taking a stand for fiscal discipline and traditional values in the national debate today only speak for ‘grassroots activists’ is absurd. As evidenced by the hundreds of thousands that filled town hall meetings this summer and the nearly a million Americans who gathered here in Washington in September. Millions of Americans, Republicans, Democrats and Independents are worried about liberal social policies and runaway federal spending, deficit and debt.

So to my friends in the so-called ‘mainstream media’ I say, ‘conservative talk show hosts may not speak for everybody but they speak for more Americans than you do.’”

It's not the "mainstream media" it probably hasn't been the "mainstream media" for 40-50 years now, let's call it what it really is which is the LEFTSTREAM MEDIA.

"the nearly a million Americans who gathered here in Washington in September" Where did that stat come from - the ummm some university that Glen Beck made up?

On a really good night, O'Reilly draws about 3.5 million viewers.

The three network news programs draw 20 million, night after night.

Cable news is still very much a niche market.

Well, it's confirmed. Mike Pence is an ultra moron.

In following, how is the comparison between mainstream media and talk show hosts, in respect to "speaking for Americans" appropriate. Mainstream Media is not supposed to be commentary, except, of course, when the organization is called Fox.

yessireebob.... Beck speaks for the tin foil hat brigade who believe OnStar is a plot to impose martial law and Limbaughspeaks for the moonbats who believe the swine flu vaccine is designed to kill Americans.

You're overlooking the 1.6 million who tune in later. As well, who bothers quoting what any of the networks have to say? Its all pablum.

And if Fox is only a "niche market" why is Obama paying them so much attention?

It really is the only "fair and balanced" network in the States, and perhaps anywhere. They really do make an effort to have both sides heard, which is largely why poor Barack Obama is messing himself.

What a nation divided we have become. It is hard to imagine America ever coming together again. The liberal left have moved Democracy towards socialism and communism. The more outrageous Obama and his socialist regime become, the more angry and united the conservative movement becomes. We will need another Ronald Reagan to clean the filth out of this administration and restore the Whitehouse.

when the majority moves either left or right THAT then becomes the middle...so, the majority is ALWAYS the middle no matter your own personal view.

I still wonder why "traditional values" Rush needed all those Viagra tablets. After all, he's not even married!
