The San Antonio Scorpions are still looking for their first road win of the 2013 Fall season as they fell 1-0 to Tampa Bay at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night.
Tampa started the better side, controlling the opening ten minutes as the Scorpions were forced to absorb the pressure of the formidable attack.
San Antonio eventually came out of their shell with Lyle Martin looking dangerous going forward and in the 15th minute they thought they had their opener as Tomasz Zahorski sent home Martin's cross, only to be denied by the assistant's flag.
That lead to a period of Scorpions dominance and in the 22nd minute Martin again looked for Zahorski but was denied as Diego Restrepo came out and punched clear, the ball falling for Sainey Touray whose shot came off the bar.
In the 25th minute the Rowdies took back control as Luck Mkosana had his powerful shot denied by Vuolo before one of the light towers lost power causing a delay to the game.
The Rowdies had the ball in the back of the net after the light was restored but they were denied by the offside flag as well due to early movement from their strikers on the free-kick keeping the match scoreless at half-time.
There was yet another offside goal in the 52nd minute as Evans Frimpong tapped home the rebound from Luke Mulholland's effort but did so after being in front of the second last defender at the time of the shot.
Mulholland was looking dangerous and in the 64th minute saw his cross curve towards goal and just scrape by on the way out of play, sparing the Scorpions.
The Rowdies continued to push and in the 75th minute had their opening as Etienne Barbara was able to mesmerize the Scorpions defense and drew a foul in the box allowing Mulholland to step up and score the winner from the spot.
From there the Scorpions looked to create chances but never really looked like getting past the Tampa Bay defense as the Rowdies held on for a 1-0 win.
