Pelkey, Mooney lead Stearns to huge win over Lee

Millinocket, Me- The Stearns Minutemen girls basketball team needed a a big heal point victory to stay in contention for a tourney spot.

They got that big win when they defeated Lee Academy by a score of 57-46 on Friday evening.

Taylor Pelkey led the Minutemen with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Mooney added 14 points.

Freshman Jessicca Girsa chipped in with nine points. Emily Wark and Mikey Murphy finished with four points each.

Jordan Maxwell led the Pandas with 17 points. Abbie Glidden and Lindsey Glidden finished with seven points each.

Khady Toure and MacKenzie Pelletier scored six points each. Kaylee Sawtelle added two points and Amelia Crise put in one foul shot for the Pandas.

The Minutemen lost seven straight games after starting the season 2-2. They have now won two straight to improve their record to 4-9 on the season.

Stearns currently sits 12th in the MPA class C heal point standings. The top 11 teams will make the tournament.

The Minutemen still have huge heal point games remaining including a contest against Mattanawcook who is currently at 11th place in the standings.

Stearns will next play on Tuesday, January 22nd when they travel to Howland for a 6:30 p.m. contest against the Penobscot Valley Howlers.

Lee (6-5) currently sits at ninth in the class C heal point standings.
