As someone who uses the iPad for work, and frequently takes it on the go, it can be challenging to find a proper case that combines portability, stability and accessibility.
Pelican aims to handle those specific concerns with their i1075 Hardback Case.
Coming in at about the typical size of a school textbook or approximately the size of two small laptops stacked on top of each other (11.11" x 7.92" x 1.63"), the i1075 is pretty lightweight, especially considering that it appears much heavier. The outer casing is made of a watertight gasket that latches on the handle and can handle impacts without opening. In fact, I purposely dropped it a few times to ensure it didn't pop open, which it did not. Additionally there's a purge valve on the handle that keeps dust and water out, which is nice when taking the case around in the rain.
Opening up the case, you'll immediately notice a thick cushioned insert that again, can handle impacts quite well without damaging your iPad. The lower part of the insert has storage areas for the iPad power cord, headphones and even a keyboard. Apple's iPad keyboard fits just perfectly but users will want to test out their own non-Apple keyboards to see if they fit properly. Sadly my Logitech bluetooth keyboard didn't sit comfortably and was unable to close the lid; but again, this will be a case by case basis. Near the top section of the lower insert has a deep enough dock that the iPad can sit in either vertical or horizontal orientations and both keep the iPad in place. Perhaps what's best about the case, outside of it protecting your equipment, is that with a keyboard and iPad in place, it works nicely as a sort of portable desk.
Pelican also guarantees the case for life which goes to show how confident they are of their product. The final piece of the puzzle is a removable shoulder strap that makes the case easy to carry around.
Overall, the i1075 Hardback Case is a quality product that should be a strong consideration for any iPad or iPad 2 owner that finds themselves in need of a portable solution.
