Mars Petcare has expanded last week’s dog food recall to include 55-pound bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food sold at Sam’s Club stores. The original recall only involved 15-pound bags sold at Dollar General Stores. The Seattle Times reported on Sept. 2, 2014, that the recall is due to the bags containing small metal fragments.
The recalled dog food contains small metal fragments that a pet could ingest. Although the fragments are not imbedded in the food, they still pose a health risk to pets if eaten. It is believed that the fragments found their way into the dog food bags during the manufacturing process. This is a voluntary recall by Mars Petcare.
