Pedestrian killed in hit and run in DeKalb County

Police on Thursday were searching for the motorist who ran over a pedestrian and then fled the scene in DeKalb County.

Mr. Erron Butler, 53, died about 10 p.m. at the scene near Moreland Avenue and Henrico Road, DeKalb  County police spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said.

Investigators said Mr. Butler was crossing Moreland Avenue outside of the crosswalk in a poorly-lit area when he was hit by someone driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring.

The car then fled the scene, Ms. Parish said.

Officers broadcasted a lookout for the vehicle, which was located by an Atlanta police officer near Jonesboro Road and Bisbee Avenue, Ms. Parish said.

Police have not yet identified the driver, but are actively pursuing leads.
