A 29-year-old man was hit and killed as he attempted to cross the street in Mableton early Sunday morning – and police said the man was jaywalking.
The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. on Floyd Road and White Boulevard, according to Cobb County police.
Investigators said Mr. John W. Kelly, of Mableton, was attempting to cross Floyd Road in an easterly direction and not at a pedestrian crosswalk.
Mr. Jason C. Bentley, 30, of Atlanta, was driving a maroon 2004 Honda Accord southbound when he struck Mr. Kelly, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said.
The 29-year-old died at the scene, Officer Bowman said. M. Bentley was not injured in the wreck, he said.
“Although this collision is still being investigated, the driver of the Honda is not expected to be charged,” Officer Bowman said.
Anyone with information about this fatality collision is asked to call Cobb County police (770) 499-3987.
