One of the primary issues people have with travel to and from Ohio State football games each Saturday is, naturally, parking. No one likes sitting in the car for an hour, searching around for a lot, then finding a spot, and finally all the horrible traffic after the game on the way out. They'd rather be out, enjoying the atmosphere and cheering on the Buckeyes with their friends! And with the construction work on 315 and High Street, traffic has been an hours-long ordeal for many in the early part of this Buckeyes season.
What if there were a way for you to park right next to the stadium, in a guarded parking area, and most importantly get in and out when you want to do so, not when traffic's clear enough to hopefully eke your way out and onto one of the routes off campus? And even better - what if this service was free?

Then get on your bike and head out to cheer for the Buckeyes, because
Pedal Instead is here to fulfill those traffic dreams!
Begun in September 2006 as part of the
Mayor's Green Team Growth and Development Committee, and run by the
University Area Enrichment Association, Pedal Instead hosts two bike corrals at OSU football games, located at the north and south ends of Ohio Stadium at all home games. The corrals are enclosed for the security of your bikes, and the service is absolutely free (though they do accept and highly appreciate donations to help them with operating costs). They're staffed completely by volunteers who want to improve our city by removing cars from the road and encourage people to act more healthily by cycling instead of driving.
Ohio State football games are most certainly not the only venues for the corrals. A multitude of city festivals such as ComFest, the Columbus Art Festival, and Urban Scrawl have all used Pedal Instead's services to encourage forward-thinking Columbus residents to shuck their gas-burners and make their way through the city with their two pedals and two wheels.
Pedal Instead is also available for your event - for more on the service or for information on advertising at the corrals, contact
Catherine Girves.
