If you like pecan pie, you will love pecan pie bars! All the wonderful taste of the rich, creamy filling with the crunchiness of pecan pieces all atop a lovely, easy crust. Because these are baked in a larger pan, you will have plenty for a big gathering. This is the perfect recipe for parties, reunions, or other large events. Everyone will love them, so make sure to take the recipe – you’ll be sharing it before the night is over.

Although pecan pie is traditionally served at holiday time, don’t make the mistake of limiting these bars to just the holidays. They would make a wonderful addition to any gathering at any time of year. Take them to your next picnic and watch them disappear. The bars are not as heavy a dessert as the pie itself, and lend themselves to finger food – perfect for parties.

It often feels that pecan pie is one of those typically southern U.S. desserts that have been around forever. In fact, it appears to have been made most famous by the Karo Syrup Company – one of the main ingredients in the pie.

High in iron, calcium, and fiber, pecans shouldn’t be overlooked. A handful of pecans a day also adds Vitamin E, as well as many other vitamins and nutrients.

Pecan Pie Bars Recipe

Ingredients for Pecan Pie Bars:

  • 3 cups flour
  • ¼ cup, plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • ¾ tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 ½ cups Karo syrup, light or dark
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ tsp. vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups pecan pieces, coarsely chopped

Directions for making Pecan Pie Bars:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 10x15 baking pan (otherwise known as a “jelly roll” pan).

Beat together the flour, the ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, butter, and salt in a large bowl. Mixture will be dry and crumbly. Press mixture firmly in the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees until light golden brown – about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool.

In a large mixing bowl, prepare the filling by whipping together the eggs, 1 ½ cups sugar, Karo syrup, melted butter, and vanilla. Beat until well-blended. Stir in the pecan pieces. Bake until the filling is set – about 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool completely. Cut into small squares (1 ½” x 1 ½”) to serve. Makes about 70 squares.
