Anyone who saw the first fight between Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard knew a rematch had to happen. And now it will. The UFC announced yesterday that both men will tangle again at UFC Fight Night 37 on March 8th of next year. The event will go down at the O2 Arena in London giving the Brit Pearson another home field advantage.
The first time the duo met, the fight was ruled a no contest. Guillard landed an illegal knee to a grounded opponent that opened a significant wound on Pearson’s forehead. Prior to the fight, Pearson had been on a two fight win streak knocking out both Ryan Couture and George Sotiropoulos. Even with as impressive as he's been however, Ross is still not ranked in the top 10 at lightweight.
“The Young Assassin,” on the other hand, had lost 4 of his last 6 fights before entering the contest with Pearson last October. Guillard does carry 3 Knockout of the Night honors on his resume and always seems to put on an exciting show inside the octagon. While the outcome of this match up most likely won't determine his fate in the UFC, Guillard has to be feeling some pressure to get a victory.
The main event of the card will pit light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson against Jim Manuwa. Tickets for the event are not yet on sale, but can purchased at UFC.com in the near future.
