It’s always a good time to do some good for the community. This week Pearl kicked off their “Pearl Gives Back” week on Monday July 21 and it runs through Sunday July 27 at the Pearl grounds. The purpose of this event is to encourage the Pearl community as well as the general public to help out the needy in the community through giving. Pearl is joining forces with the San Antonio Food Bank and the Archdiocese of San Antonio to help low income families and unaccompanied minors and families from Central America.
The San Antonio Food Bank’s mission is to fight hunger in Southwest Texas through food programs and education. Each year they provide millions of pounds of food to people in need thanks to the generous donations from local businesses, corporations, government and other civic groups.
This summer they are helping families and children who during these summer months don’t have access to food programs at school. They are placing a Food Bank donation bin in the breezeway between Adelante and LeeLee. Anyone willing and able to help can bring non-perishable food items and drop them in the bin. Monetary donations as well as donations of non-perishables can be made online through a virtual food drive.
The Archdioceses of San Antonio and Lackland Air Force Base are helping the unaccompanied minors and Central American refugees who need food, clothing and blankets. Pearl retailers including Local Coffee and Lucky Duck are collecting donations of canned, non-perishable items, new and gently used clothing including diapers and blankets. Those who donate will receive 10% off one item. Monetary donations can be made online or by calling (210) 207-0900.
