Peak Eruption is a volatile new "Magic: The Gathering" card from Wizards of the Coast's latest expert expansion set "Theros." This red uncommon sorcery spell can yield explosive results against other red players and single-handedly allow you to win the game.
Peak Eruption - 2R
Sorcery (Uncommon)
Destroy target Mountain. Peak Eruption deals 3 damage to that land's controller.
"Early olive buds? A good omen. Flock of crows? Not so good. Mountain exploding? Bad. Very, very bad."
-Hira, street oracle
Imagine this scenario: You're on the play, and lead with Stomping Grounds and an Elvish Mystic. Your opponent plays a Mountain or shockland and says go. You untap, play another land, and then cast Peak Eruption. Your next turn threat, be it Polis Crusher, Kalonia Hydra, or Ghor-Clan Rampager is going to leave your adversary in for a world of hurt. There's very few decks that will be able to recover from such a nasty play, all but ensuring your eventual victory.
It's not just the removal of your rival's resources that makes Peak Eruption such a nasty card: The three damage it inflicts can be killer too. That helps make Peak Eruption relevant in the late game where one less land won't have such a huge impact on your enemy. Peak Eruption really shines when the Mountain you've destroyed was enchanted by a Chained to the Rocks, even more so if the creature that was exiled has an "enters the battlefield" ability such as Banisher Priest or Fanatic of Mogis.
Because Peak Eruption requires your antagonist to have a Mountain you'll want to relegate it to your sideboard so that you only add it to your deck when you're decks where this spell is relevant.
How will you use Peak Eruption?
