(San Francisco, February 4th, 2013) - Believe it or not children, but there was once a time when drag competitions weren't televised spectacles with celebrity guest judges and corporate sponsors. Decades before the first SheMail was ever drafted, a community of brave and bitchy Harlem queens transcended the racism, homophobia, and economic oppression of their daily lives by refusing to bottle their unstoppable fierceness and fabulosity. Their escape came in the form of underground competitions known as Balls, in which they were judged on their walk, look, and "realness" ¬- sound familiar?
And now that drag competitions have become a bona fide cultural phenomenon, Peaches Christ is proud to present a one-night-only celebration of the film that started it all: Jennie Livingston's massively influential 1991 documentary PARIS IS BURNING, with a pre-show Ball featuring legendary RuPaul's Drag Race fan favorite LATRICE ROYALE! Shade will be thrown on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at the Castro Theatre at 8pm.

Join the ultimate drag mom as she schools the children at tonight's class: Drag 101. Ms. Royale promises to teach YOU how to read. And also how to EAT IT! Oh, the shade of it all!
The pre-show extravaganza kicks off with a very special live performance from the legendary Ms. Royale, followed by a special BALL presentation starring vogue luminaries of the Bay Area's underground Ball scene. Celebrity judges Ms. Royale, Jocquese (Vogue & Tone), U-phoria (Ball Producer), and Mister David Glamamore (Some Thing) will rate the contestants in three categories - Runway Couture, Butch Queen In Pumps, and Vogue Femme - and present trophies to the most deserving houses. Anita Khan will serve as Ball Commentator, Josh Cheon of HONEY SOUNDSYSTEM will provide the soundtrack, and DOUBLE DUCHESS will serve the audience with a bonus Ball performance!
