Need a covered dish for the holiday weekend picnic or cook out? There is nothing better in this wonderful time of year than fresh peaches. Why not stop at a farmer’s market to pick up a basket? Peach crisp will make a warm, sweet dessert that starts as a simple mixture but somehow ends up as everyone’s favorite seasonal treat.
Old-Fashioned Peach Crisp
6 cups fresh or sliced peeled peaches
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup softened margarine or butter
½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Heat oven to 375 degree F. Place peaches in an ungreased 12 x 8-inch (2-quart) baking dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
In a large bowl, combine all topping ingredients; mix until crumbly Sprinkle crumb mixture evenly over peaches.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until peaches are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm with cream, ice cream or whipped cream. Serves 12.
