The race for the playoffs in the PDL Northwest Division is as hot as ever. Last night in Tacoma the Tide edged Vancouver 1:0 to pull into a second-place tie with the Kitsap Pumas for the final playoff spot. Both sides have 26 points. Rory Agu scored Tacoma's winner and goalkeeper Scott Barnum earned the Tide shutout, including stopping a Whitecaps Residency penalty kick. Kitsap has two matches in hand on the Tide, including tonight's 7:30 PM kick off at Bremerton Memorial Stadium against the Yakima Reds. Tacoma will take I-5 south for a few minutes and play a 'home' match tonight in Tumwater against Abbotsford.
Down in Oregon the Portland Timbers U23's played one of their more rugged matches of the year but still managed to beat visiting Abbotsford Mariners 2:1. The U23's are now 13-0-0 with 39 points. Portland will clinch the division title if they can beat visiting Vancouver on Sunday at PGE Park.
Kitsap Pumas players were treated to a picnic after their practice early Friday evening. The Hellcats independent supporters group fed the guys in the now annual tradition. See the video below.
