PCHS girls improve to 2-0 with victory over Stearns

GUILFORD-- Jordynne Littlefield scored 18 points to lead the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates girls basketball team to a 40-37 victory over Stearns on Thursday evening.

Stearns (0-2) jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the second quarter. The first half finished in a 16-16 tie, as the Pirates went on a 7-1 run to end the half.

The Pirates (2-0) outscored Stearns 15-4 in the third quarter to take a 31-20 lead after three quarters..

Stearns scored the first 11 points of the third quarter, and held a 37-36 lead with under one minute left in the game.

Alex Speed made a basket with 41 seconds remaining to give the Pirates a 38-37 lead.

Mikayla Dow hit two free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining to secure the victory for PCHS.

Littlefield shot 9-15 from the field. It was the second straight game the sophomore led the Pirates in scoring.

Littlefield scored 14 points in a season opening 53-30 win over George Stevens.

Delani Bennett recorded seven points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks for the Pirates.

Speed scored four points, dished out three assists, and played a very solid point guard.

Haylee Patterson recorded six points and five rebounds, Dow added five points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Raychel and Emma Alley scored 11 points each to lead Stearns. Jessica Girsa added nine.
