The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) welcomes fall with an Open House later this month and a fresh selection of exhibits. The current exhibit honors the recently deceased David Snyder, a founder of the College.
Snyder, who passed away in December, is one of the founders of the College and an artist himself. In his memory and honor a “Print Invitational” will be held through 27 September. The featured artists include Rebecca Blosser, Jolyn Fry, Eileen Heasley, Amy Boone-McCreesh, Zachary Lindenberger and Snyder himself.
An Admissions Open House will be held on Saturday, 27 September. The Open House will run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet faculty members, current students and some alumni. Learn about financial aid, housing options, and pre-college offerings for high school students. Housing options now include the newly opened Steinman Lofts. The application fee will be waived for those who apply during the Open House. Register online or call the admission office at 800-689-0379, ext. 1001. Another Open House is scheduled for Saturday, 15 November.
Next month studio artist Toyin Odutola and photographer Lydia Panas will feature their joint “Mosaic Project.” The exhibit will run from 3 October through 15 November. The opening reception will be 3 October from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. during First Friday. Odutola, a contemporary artist who was born in Nigeria, is expected to be present for that reception. Her work has been shown at the Birmingham Museum of Art, AL and The National Museum of African Art, and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Panas will be on hand for the Gallery Reception during November’s First Friday. The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on 7 November. Panas will also be featured that day at the 3:30 p.m. at the Artist Talk.
Andy Chen and Waqas Jawald, of Isometric design in New York City, will be at the College for the 23 October Artist Talk. The Talk begins at 11:30 a.m.
The faculty will exhibit various media in “Faculty Biennial” to conclude the fall semester. That exhibit will run from 21 November to 10 January. The opening reception will be during First Friday on 5 December.
The PCA&D is located at 204 N Prince Street. Admission is free and the exhibits are open to the public. Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It is closed weekends. PCA&D is handicapped accessible.
