After diving into a couple of releases a week ago (one about a week and a half ago), both have kept my attention so far. Even in its early access state, State of Decay is proving to be quite the gem at its current twenty dollar price tag. It's the open world I'd envisioned if I ended up being in a zombie apocalypse. I would gather a (hopefully) trustworthy crew, scavenge supplies, find a base of operations, gather more crew, and eventually make a life and make things work in a terrible situation.
Shadow Warrior, as I follow the adventures of Lo Wang, during initial play, is quite fun, especially the sword play. It feels like how the swords impact and dismember in War Frame, but since we're in first person here, there's something more personal. The gameplay makes you feel very confident in delivering wicked blows, resulting in chunks of enemy scattered across the ground. There was one instance where I chopped off a foe's legs and he kept crawling toward me. I had to put him out of his misery. So far the graphics are crisp, even if the textures aren't that great, the mystical powers you get are interesting, and the upgrade system is a nice addition with some slick presentation.
Now for the actual point of this article, the new PC releases. There's a lot of war going on this week, along with racing and a basketball juggernaut known as NBA 2K14. One title that does interest me though, is Arma Tactics, especially with XCOM: Enemy Within fresh in my mind.
Here's the PC game release list for this week according to Shacknews:
