PC game release list for the week of 2/3/2013

Let me tell you a story about my friend. A friend who loves to watch horror movies, yet can't play horror games because he's deftly afraid of them. It was a dark winter's night and there was some light snow outside fluttering, as the wind swept it away to destinations unknown. Actually wait, it was twelve in the afternoon with all the curtains open and the sun shining brightly inside the house; a perfect way to play a horror game.

The game? Dead Space 2. My friend decided to give it a shot after I put the controller in his hand (forcefully with duct tape). With every step he was extremely cautious because he knew that some vile grotesque abomination could burst out at any moment. And right on cue, the first vile creature scared him. Apparently it was in the form of steam that cracked through some faulty pipes, which created a loud bang. Okay, so that was a false alarm.

Eventually the monsters started to arrive, shambling and jerking their way toward my friend. He dispatched them effectively by blasting their legs first, then finishing them off with a shot to the dome, followed by some aggressive stomping. He was gaining confidence, but still roaming the halls with a sense of dread. When he reached the daycare facility, he'd had enough. After shooting a herd of deformed monster babies from the pits of Hades, the game was promptly exited and the controller put down on the couch cushion.

Moral of the story? My friend won't even touch or see anything Dead Space 3 related, despite my best efforts to send him shortened links that link to pictures of those Dead Space 2 kindergarteners. Not even the foreboding snowy environments, intriguing co-op, and robust weapon customization can change his mind on this newest entry. As for me, I'll be with Isaac Clarke every step of the way, hopefully finding the secret to stop the Necromorph plague once and for all.

It's a short list, but here's the entire PC game release list for this week according to Shacknews:
