In anticipation of Aliens: Colonial Marines, and the hopeful immersion I'll feel by walking through dimly lit hallways with nothing but my gun in hand, I am going to watch all the Alien movies. Yup, the four movie quadrilogy from the original Alien to the fourth one with Winona Rider. Remember her? Plus, I'll probably end up watching Prometheus just for the sake of watching it. Maybe even first.
Looking back, it's hard to believe that Alien: Resurrection was released back in 1997. And again, looking back, but not as far, Aliens: Colonial Marines was conceptualized in 2006, giving it a 7-year development cycle, which is a long time for a video game. Duke Nukem Forever notwithstanding. Throughout its course, many studios have worked on it, but it will be Gearbox to be the ones that bring it home. Since it takes place after Aliens there are a lot of nods to the film, along with great care to keep the atmosphere the same. Through gameplay footage, Colonial Marines does show its age graphically, but it looks to be a fun first person shooter, that incorporates 4 player co-op, as well as an extensive upgrade system, which lets you grab perks, new weapons, and new skins for your squad.
Whip out your shotguns guys and keep them handy, for those close encounters.
