Brazil is a soccer crazy country, but it's even going up a notch this summer as the the South American country hosts the 2014 World Cup.

But sadly, to some in Brazil, getting clean water takes priority over soccer.

Brazilian and FC Barcelona soccer star, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior is stepping in with the help of PayPal to bring the reality of clean water to distributed across Brazil. Starting today, June 2, 2014, you can help make a difference.

While 32 countries will be duking it out in World Cup play starting in June, countries will also be competing via PayPal to see who contributes the most money to this important cause.

Here is the U.S., we have a couple ways to do this.

People will be able to donate starting 6/2, but they’ll also be able to contribute to "Waves For Water" right through the PayPal app when they order ahead from their closest or favorite Eat24 restaurant. Beginning June 12, when a customer orders ahead via the PayPal app, PayPal will make a $3 donation to "Waves" on their behalf.

Neymar's Neymar Jr. Project Institute has been a huge supporter of Waves for Water and other charities in his home country. He has helped promote community education and physical activity as well as sports for children.

“I am extremely proud to work with PayPal to support Waves for Water,” explains Neymar Jr. “It deeply saddens me that so many people from my home country of Brazil have limited access to clean water, a gift so many of us take for granted. Through this campaign I hope we can touch people’s lives in a meaningful way and raise enough funds to bring safe, clean water to communities in need across my beloved Brazil.”

Per Waves for Water, here is what their mission is:

Waves for Water foundation is an NGO that raises funds to purchase clean water filters for distribution to communities in need. As part of this campaign, consumers from the thirty two countries that will be in Brazil this summer will be participating to “compete” to win bragging rights as the country that raises the most funds to support Waves for Water. PayPal will enable consumers in these countries to make contributions quickly, easily and in a secure way.

For Neymar Jr. fans, they can head to eBay.com, June 12-22 to bid on cool soccer gear signed by Neymar Jr., and all proceeds will benefit Waves for Water.

It's great to see PayPal getting in on this cause.

"PayPal couldn't be more proud to work with international sports superstar Neymar Jr., his Institute, and Waves for Water to power the people economy through supporting a cause that will make a real difference in the lives of thousands in Brazil,” said Carey Kolaja, Vice President of Global Product Solutions, PayPal. "Our global network presents a rare and special opportunity to challenge people who use PayPal to give to those in need and claim bragging rights for their country along the way."

All of the funds raised in each participating country will be used to buy water filters that will be given to cities where the thirty two teams will play games. Make a donation at http://www.competitionforgood.com.
