Payday sequel to receive whole set of DLC content spanning 1 year. Modding still being considered.
Payday 2 is slated to release 5 DLC packs over the course of the next year, Game Director, David Goldfarb says, according to a Joystiq report. Owners of the newly released heist sim will still see regular updates to the game, in conjunction with DLC distribution.
"Payday 2 - just like its predecessor, Payday: The Heist - a living thing. We have 5 DLCs planned together with [publisher] 505 Games for the coming year,” Goldfarb details. The developer will continue to update the crime game with both paid and free content ”just like we did with the first game,” he adds.
Currently, PD2 does not allow mod support, however, the game’s L4D esque design - regarding sporadic A.I. map directing - does suggest a potential marriage between modders and the co-op heist sim. “We would love to add support for community generated content,” Goldfarb stated. Though not an official confirmation, the game director did say that Overkill would “continue to look into this.”
Mod support would open a floodgate of creative and absurd game augmentations that, needles to say, would bring all kinds of fresh flavor to the title’s already intriguing concept. Games like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Natural Selection 2 and even the classic WWII shooter, Day of Defeat: Source all house droves of impressive user generated content from mod support, but we digress.
In the meantime, we can certainly look forward to a steady stream of DLC within the next 12 months. Be sure to check out our review of the hard hitting crime sim and learn our thoughts on Overkill’s new sequel.
