Pax East 2011: Need For Speed World MMO

EA and Blackbox were at Pax East 2011, showcasing their new MMO, Need for Speed World. The convention was held in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, but even spending 4 hours traveling from NYC to Boston didn’t deter visitors from hitting the virtual road for a race.

Need for Speed World is a free to play MMO which features customizable and unlockable cars, tons of trans, and a lot of fun. The graphics are similar to Need for Speed Carbon, which is fantastic for an MMO. The Need for Speed booth at Pax East had 6 car peripherals for visitors to try out. A wheel, 3 pedals, and your choice of a viewpoint immersed Pax East visitors, as did headsets and voice chat, which are integrated into the game. Handling is realistic and somewhat challenging - but not to the point of frustration. The floor at Pax was too loud to hear the music, but if the past NfS games are any indication, that will not be lacking either.

The MMO looks like a good time (yes, even without the car peripheral). It’s out now, so get your foot on the pedal and get ready for a new kind of MMO for you to get addicted to.
