It came to my attention this weekend that more and more people are placing Obituary Tributes to their pets in the newspaper. This has been happening to a greater degree over the last four or five years. This is certainly to honor the steadfast love, adoration and unwavering companion who have gone on.
Every person who has the good fortune to have a pet which left the paw prints of love within their heart can attest to this love which will withstand the test of time. Whether these pets are service animals or working animals or our cherished pets, they have given us the greatest gift another species can. They have taught us the embrace of love is something each one of us deserve and will return to a pet who has given us unconditionally themselves.
There are sympathy cards for pet loss (www.americangreetingcard.com) and special urns for their ashes. There are special places where we can bury them if we want. However, perhaps the most beautiful is a place we can write of their love, picture their life and reminisce of wonderful days gone by. When a pet is lost our friends should know, as they care to and will want to share our grief and our love. So perhaps it is fitting to have an Obituary Column for our unconditional friends to be honored.
