Paulie Malignaggi once complained about the more connected fighters in the sport of boxing. Now, he is one of them, reaping the full benefit.

On March 12, as a late edition to an already stacked fight card, it was announced that Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KO) will challenge Shawn Porter (23-0-1, 14 KO) for the IBF world welterweight title. The fight will take place at the DC Armory on April 19, in our nation's capital.

Malignaggi, 33, made headlines last June when he complained he was robbed of his WBA welterweight title after being outpointed by Adrien Broner, citing Broner was the more connected fighter, due to him being represented by boxing power broker Al Haymon. A few months later, Malignaggi signed with Haymon, who also represents Shawn Porter.

After threatening to walk away from the sport he loves, Malignaggi came back last December to win an impressive unanimous decision victory over fellow Brooklyn native Zab Judah.

On the same night Malignaggi beat Judah, Shawn Porter beat Devon Alexander via a 12 round unanimous decision for Alexander's IBF welterweight title, in what most observers considered to be an upset.

Malignaggi-Porter is just one of three world title fights to be held at the Armory on April 19. Headlining the show, Bernard Hopkins will defend his light-heavyweight title against Beibut Shumenov. Also, middleweight titlist Peter Quillin will defend his belt against Lukas Konecny.
