Pauley Perrette was hospitalized following a dangerous allergic reaction to the hair dye that has made her Gothic-style “NCIS” character Abby Sciuto such a famous cast member of the CBS show. Pauley Perrette tweeted on July 23 that she has left the hospital and that she is “Happy to report I'm back on #NCIS set with the gang. Thanks everyone!” As reported by the Daily News on July 22, unlike the fictional "NCIS" character Abby Sciuto, actress Pauley Perrette is naturally blond and has been experiencing increasing allergic reactions to the hair dye that she has been using.

Perrette’s hospitalization for her allergic reaction to hair dye became necessary when she broke out in a rash and began to experience severe swelling. On July 21, Perrette posted the picture of her face on her Twitter page along with the following description: “Was in ER. Just got home from hospital. Awful. My head swelled up huge like a melon.”

Pauley has been a cast member of the “NCIS” hit series since it premiered on Sept. 23, 2003. Her role as forensic scientist Abby Sciuto, who is working at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service headquarters at the Washington Naval Yard, has made her one of the most popular actresses on U.S. prime time television. In addition to her Gothic way of dressing, her interest in death and the supernatural, Perrette’s character is known for her signature style black hair.

As part of her role as Abby Sciuto, Perrette has used hair dyes for years. When she experienced the symptoms of a rash all over her neck and scalp six months ago, she ignored it. After having landed in the ER, the actress wrote the following warning to her fans:

“Wasn’t sure if I should tweet about this, but it’s important. Did my head look a bit puffy on the red carpet last night? Turns out I was having a dangerous allergic reaction to hair dye. Been battling this for a year now, but it gets worse every time. It’s an acquired allergy for people that dye their hair for years. (Y’all know I’m blonde) Was in ER. Just got home from hospital. Awful. My head swelled up huge like a melon. If you or someone you know dyes their hair, especially black, please google “hair dye allergy”. Know the symptoms. It can be fatal. People have died. For real.”

After Pauley Perrette’s hospitalization due to her dangerous hair dye allergy, the “NCIS” star is considering natural dyes or maybe even wearing a wig for her role as Abby Sciuto. Some fans are suggesting that maybe it is time for her character to change into being a blonde. As one fan writes, “go back to your blonde..spiked again..would be a great new look for NCIS! Your health is far too important.”
