Paula Deen’s name keeps coming up, and so far, the news is not flattering. This time it involves Paula Deen’s stepson, Anthony Groover. He faces multiple felony battery charges.
Radar Online states that a source told the National Enquirer, “Paula was being bombarded with bad press, and she was furious with Anthony for putting her reputation and business empire at further risk. Paula has done everything she can to make sure Anthony’s case remains buried, but it’s also caused an avalanche of problems in her marriage because she’s been taking out her anger on her husband Michael, who is Anthony’s father.”
The alleged incident happened on Sept. 23, 2012. James Price gave a vivid description to the National Enquirer of what happened that day.
Apparently, the two were having a few drinks together at a local bar, Live Wire Music Hall. After they finished drinking, they decided to leave and hail a cab. Instead of a cab pulling over, a SUV pulled up. Anthony got into the front passengers seat and James was getting in the back. Suddenly, Anthony became furious for no reason.
James gave this account, “Anthony flew into a rage, jumped out of the SUV with another guy, and started cussing me for no reason. I told him, ‘F*** you, man!’ and started to walk away. As my back was turned, Anthony shoved me into a brick building. My head hit the wall so hard that it knocked me out cold.”
Eyewitnesses confirm that a white male from the SUV assaulted James, but they are not sure if it was Anthony or someone else. They left James lying on the ground, bleeding profusely from the injuries to his hands, face, and head. James sustained a broken nose and eye socket because of the attack. He has endured reconstructive surgery at a cost of $100,000. He is still having issues from the attack.
The case went to trial in April and then a grand jury in May. Anthony was not indicted in the matter. James told the Enquirer, "As it stands now, it looks like Anthony is going to get away without any punishment at all. Paula Deen and her family are treated like royalty in the Savannah area, and it’s pretty obvious to me that this is just another case of Savannah’s good ol’ boy network protecting her.”
Whether or not Anthony is responsible remains unknown. We can only hope that he is innocent. Paula doesn't need any more bad publicity.
