Paula Deen's Food Network recipes: Y'all love to hate them!

Paula says, Butter, Butter, Butter!

Hey Y'all! The Food Network's star, Paula Deen, makes a mean Baked Overnight French Toast Casserole, but has also been poo-pooed for her liberal use of butter and oil in recipes like Paula's Fried Butter Balls.

Paula Deen Is Trying To Kill Us

Serious Eats writer Lia Bulaong, wrote a tongue-in-cheek article on April 9, 2007 titled, Paula Deen Is Trying To Kill Us. Bulaong says, "I know Paula Deen seems like a nice little old lady, with her big silver hair and friendly Southern drawl, but today I've finally come to believe that she's pure evil." She is of course talking about Paula's Fried Butter Balls.

Paula Deen Recipes

Some people say Paula has been making people fat for years with all her butter laden recipes and fried food. For years, Paula Deen's recipes have been accused of clogging the arteries. Southern cooking has often been associated with fried food. With recipes like these, it's not a hard story to swallow:

In Paula's Defence - Y'all  Gotta Love Her!

Paula Deen may load on the butter in deep fried Butter Balls, but she's not forcing you to eat this way every day. As in everything we do in life - diet included - moderation should be excercised. In fact, Paula often encourages the use of peanut oil which is said to "contain resveratrol, the substance in grapes and red wine that has been associated with reduced cardiovascular disease AND reduced cancer risk," according to CBS News in the article, Cooking Oils That Are Good For You. She also has a number of soup and salad recipes that are rather healthy. That way, you can have your Fried Mac & Cheese and balance it with a Grilled Peach Salad.

Paula Deen and the Food Network

Paula’s Home Cooking” premiered on the TV Food Network on November 16, 2002. Paula Deen, award winning restaurateur, best-selling author, and TV celebrity cook has garnered widespread acclaim for her delicious down home cooking, seasoned with a generous dollop of Southern hospitality," according to her bio on the New York City Wine & Food Festival's website.

Paula Deen's big name Food Network peers include Ina Garten, Guy Firei, Sandra Lee, Rachel Ray, Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Ellie Krieger, Jamie Oliver, Jeff Corwin, Mario Batali, Nigella Lawson and Tyler Florence among others.

Presented by Food & Wine, and Tavel & Leisure, the New York City Wine & Food Festival is scheduled for October 8-11, 2009. Go see Paula Deen and all the Food Network stars and personalities there!

I wrote about this just yesterday. Have to disagree that she has "a number of recipes" that are healthy.

Although Paula Deen seems like a very nice lady, I would not make her recipes for my family.

    Great article!

I love Paula. A lot of your receipts brings me back to Tennessee.

Being from the south, I just love Paula Deen however, I wish she would try frying in rice bran oil-at least some part of it would be healthy. Of course, one would not eat her food all the time but sometimes a person needs to spluge and enjoy!!!

I AM NOT EVEN SOUTHERN, BUT I MAKE HER FOOD ALL THE TIME. TRY HER SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS. MY FAMILY WENT CRAZY FOR IT

Don't mess with Paula! All you thin-waisted health nuts who want the world to be like you should learn to accept the fact that some of us like butter and cream...mind your own business!

While comments are encouraged, I do want to set the record straight. The comment from "Donna" is not by me, Donna Diegel, the author. It is from another reader named Donna!

I love watching Food Network but no longer impressed with Paula.
She just makes you tired with her constant laugh and acting silly.I liked her older shows, but now she is just too artifical.

I love Paula Deen and her cooking. She has some delicious recipes. My Grandkids love her to. I bought my Granddaughter her kids cookbook. She is all about family. If you don't like her or her recipes don't watch her. We all can't be a size 3. She has her family on the show all the time. What other cook do you see that have their families on and spend quality time with them? Keep it up Paula.

This is the way people used to eat, but they were busy the other 22 hours of the day, not sitting watching tv or video games or 8 hour sit down job. When they took the fat away in the 60s and 70s, that is when all the heart and cholesterol problems start. Processed boxed products such as mac and cheese, hamburger helper etc will kill you faster. Paula is alright, just eat in moderation.

I dislike Paula because she supports Smithfield. I really hate that company because of what they do to the rivers and pigs and even their workers i think i would like Paula a little more if she didn't support them.
