Paula Deen reveals how her family teamed up to lose 178 pounds together

Paula Deen has long been known as the kitchen queen as she has introduced us to countless mouth-watering recipes over the years. Though her signature concoctions are undeniably tasty, they of course haven't always been known to be particularly healthy.

Unfortunately constantly eating large portions of foods that are high in carbohydrates catches up with most of us at some point. Deen herself, took a while before she revealed her struggles with diabetes 2. However, the food extraordinaire has changed up her habits, dropped 40 lbs, and is feeling like a new person.

In an article dated Fri, Jan. 25, PEOPLE reveals how she, her sons, and her husband dropped a total of 178 pounds together.

PEOPLE reports that she devoted herself to portion control, cutting down on carbs, and doubling up on greens. Her sons decided to join in.

Son Jamie lost 45 pounds by “eating like a 6-year-old,” he said. Basically Jamie also exercised portion control like his mother, eating more like a child, instead of overeating.

Additionally, Deen’s 300-lb husband, Michael Groover, faced a tough decision: Schedule knee replacement surgery or shed some weight. Groover said, “I’m not fond of knives.”

Consequently, Deen’s leading man lost 60 lbs on a strict, doctor-supervised regimen.

Also joining the fitness club was Paula’s younger son Bobby who said he wasn’t feeling or looking good decided he wanted to get in shape as well. “Exercise changed my relationship with food, and I began to search for a balance,” said Bobby.

The family that sometimes struggled to make healthy eating decisions is now on a new path of improving their health and well being. They have a new line of fresh and packaged food products due this spring to influence the next generation.

Ironically Deen says her grandsons would choose a carrot over a cookie. “If it wasn’t for the fact that they love butter so much, I’d question if they were really mine,” joked Deen.

One hundred and seventy eight pounds lighter, the famous food family is using their influence for a new and healthier agenda.
