Paula Deen lost 36 pounds, ate favorite foods: ‘It’s all about moderation'

Food Network star Paula Deen caused a backlash from cooking fans when she announced that she was suffering from Type 2 diabetes, but Us Weekly reported on Thursday, Jan. 3 that Deen has lost 36 pounds and still eats all her favorite foods, only now she eats them in moderation.

“It’s all about moderation. I just needed to learn to eat a normal portion size and not overindulge.”

Paula Deen had other reasons to slim down and revamp her diet. In a recent Woman’s Day interview, Deen said:

“I want to be there for my grandchildren. I think about them every day. My daddy was dead at 40. My mother was dead at 44. And look – I’m 65 and I’m still here! Go, 65! Waking up every morning is very exciting for me, to see what the day is going to bring.”

Paula says she still eats her favorite foods, including her famous fried chicken and her grandmother’s pound cake, though she does not eat them quite as often as she used to eat them. “It’s amazing how little changes will give you big results, “Deen says.

Paula’s son Bobby Dean has his own cooking show, “Not My Mama’s Meal” on The Cooking Channel, and he helps fans learn to lighten up Paula’s famous recipes, reducing fat and calories. Bobby takes his favorite dishes from home and reworks them to be lighter, leaner and just delicious, says The Cooking Channel website for the show.

Some fan favorites of Bobby’s slimmed down versions of Paula Deen's recipes include Unfried Chicken, The Son's Slaw, The Son’s Potato Salad, Bobby’s Buffalo Wings with Tangy Cheese Dip, Bobby’s Creamed Spinach, and Lighter and Leaner Pimento Cheese Sandwiches.
