Following one of the harshest scandals of the summer, Paula Deen has resurfaced. According to a People report dated Saturday, September 14, the southern chef received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Metro Cooking & Entertaining show in Houston today.
Not surprisingly, the 66-year-old chef was overcome with emotion after such a cheerful welcome back to the spotlight. Subsequently, she broke down in tears.
"These are tears of joy, y'all," she said. "This is my first time out in three months. … The one place I wanted to make my first step out was in Texas. You are forgiving folks with hearts as big as your state."
"We all experience pain in some way but pain is also a good thing because it makes you grow," Deen added.
She then returned to her love of cooking by joining her sons Bobbie and Jamie for a demo.
Drawing the end of her presentation, she was her spunky self. She put her face up to the camera, flashed a huge smile and said, “I’m back!”
Deen’s personal turmoil began when she was accused of racial and sexual discrimination by a former employee. The allegations caused Deen to face extreme scrutiny, and to experience the loss of multiple endorsement deals, her contract with the Food Network, and her book deal, despite the fact that it had already reached #1 on the Amazon Best Sellers charts. Though the case had nearly destroyed Deen’s thriving career, the judge dismissed the issue, and Jackson cannot ever refile her complaint.
The warm welcome is an indicator that Deen is still loved by many. It seems as though she is back on track, and that the severity of the storm has significantly lessened.
