When he got the news about Paul Walker’s untimely death, Vin Diesel returned to California. Stepping from the plane he went directly to the home of his friend and “Fast and Furious” co-star’s parents’ home. According to Yahoo! Movies on Dec. 6, he intended to offer his strength but instead took strength from them.
In his own words, Diesel shared the experience on his Facebook page on Friday:
"When I heard, I immediately flew back to California, and went directly from the plane to his mother's house... I thought they needed my strength, but realized when I got there and broke down before his family, that it was I who needed theirs. His mother hugged me and said I am so sorry... I said sorry? You're the mother who lost a son?... She said yes, but you lost your other half..."
Paul Walker, Sr., the deceased actor’s father confirmed the visit, remarking the Diesel, 46, needed to take a minute to compose himself when he came to see the family earlier this week.
Diesel has only shared his thoughts publicly a few times since Walker’s death. In an earlier Facebook post he referred to Walker as his brother. He also visited the scene of the accident where Walker and his friends died in a fiery crash.
On Monday at a memorial held at the site, Diesel addressed the gathered crowd.
"The love that you've shown Paul, it's going to stay with me forever ... Thank you for showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciate him."
Tyrese has also visited Walker’s parents and been very vocal about his thoughts and feelings. He is urging mourners to donate to Walker’s charity. Other cast members including Ludacris, and Michelle Rodriguez are being less public with their reactions but grieving too. Even Dwayne Johnson has called this a “tough week.”
