Fans, family and fellow actors have all been stunned by Paul Walker's death this past weekend in a car crash. Though many former co-stars and colleagues had spoken out via social media shortly after Walker's death, fellow “Fast & Furious” co-star Vin Diesel took just a bit longer. On Dec. 2 Diesel posted a short tribute on his Facebook page that quickly got the support of nearly 2 million fans.
Of course Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were the faces of the “The Fast and the Furious” franchise dating back to the original in 2001. They were working on the seventh movie in the franchise, and key scenes were slated to be filmed this week. The future of the new movie, and the franchise, is unknown at this time.
Monday evening Diesel posted a picture of himself with Paul Walker, and they both seemed to be having a good time. Underneath Diesel wrote, “To live in the hearts we leave behind, is not to die.” He attributed the quote to Thomas Campbell.
Diesel then wrote,
“Pablo, I wish you could see the world right now... and the profound impact, your full life has had on it, on Us... on me... I will always love you Brian, as the brother you were... on and off screen.”
Brian is, of course, the name of the character Walker played in “The Fast and the Furious.” Paul's father has spoken briefly with media about the tragic loss, and new details are emerging about the car crash that killed both Roger Rodas and Paul Walker. There is still a great deal unknown however.
Vin Diesel is right though when he says that Paul Walker, and his death, have had a profound impact on the world. Many fans are heartbroken over the loss. The family has asked that those interested in sharing their support donate to Paul Walker's charity, Reach Out WorldWide, in lieu of flowers or other memorials.
